Introduction to Illustration: Color Workshop (2.5 hours, $75)

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of color theory and applying color to their illustration work. Topics covered will include additive and subtractive color, primary and secondary color, replicating color, and building color palettes. Students will complete a series of small illustration exercises related to color theory.

In this workshop, through exercises and studying established illustrator's work, students will learn about the principals of illustration including balance, scale, repetition, focus, unity & variety, proportion, contrast, movement, and depth. Students will complete a series of exercises in addition to a final drawing.

Introduction to Illustration: Style Workshop (2.5 hours, $75)

In this workshop, through a series of demonstrations and guided exercises, students will learn about the elements of 2D design including line, shape, value, texture, space, and color. Students will complete a series of 6 simple illustrations, learning to explore their illustrative style through each element of 2D design.

Introduction to Illustration (6 weeks on Tuesday evenings, $225)

This class introduces students to the primary elements that comprise a strong illustration. During weeks 1-3, through a mixture of demonstration and guided exercises, students learn about working with the visual components of illustration including value, composition, color, line weight, and style. During week 4, students learn to apply these visual methods to convey a particular concept. Concepts focused on in this course will be related to using illustration to communicate a social challenge or motivate social change. During weeks 5 & 6, students will have guided class time to complete their final poster illustration. Opportunities for critique of work progress will be provided throughout the class.

This information session will introduce students to illustration and how it is used, the elements of 2D design, samples of established illustrator's work, and more. The instructor will also take questions and go over the syllabus for the 6-week Introduction to Illustration class starting on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
